Position Term:
The position will begin in February 2013 with a 3 month probationary period to ensure the PR officer is a good fit for the role. This position is part-time (20 hours per week).
Responsibilities:
- Document Preparation: prepare and/or edit organizational publications including employee newsletters, annual reports, and press releases
- Social Media: increase our online presence through social media outlets
- Research: assist with basic research as needed in order to connect start-ups and investors and to investigate any trending activities within the start up community
- Writing for various print and electronic publications
- Web writing and editing
- Event planning
- Daily media monitoring
- Listening in on or attending media interviews
- Draft monthly media reports
- Draft press releases and media advisory as needed
- All other duties as assigned
Desired Skills & Experience
Required
- Talented writer with ability to write succinct, intelligent and polished pieces
- Ability to communicate in English with a high level of tact
- Experience with video editing
- Working knowledge of and experience with online networks (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, Tumblr, etc.)
- Ability to multi-task and switch gears frequently and rapidly to capitalize on traffic opportunities
- Must be a self starter and problem solver
- The ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects
Preferred
- At least 1 year experience with organizing events or working for startups/incubators in Kenya
- Linkages to local angels

Sinapis is a social enterprise with a mission to empower aspiring entrepreneurs in the developing world with innovative, scalable business ideas by providing them with a rigorous business education, Christian business and ethics training, world-class consulting and mentoring services and access to seed capital. Sinapis begins by selecting 15 of the most innovative entrepreneurs in Kenya and puts them through 6 months of intensive training similar to a mini-MBA but customized for early stage enterprises. Throughout the training program, entrepreneurs must implement what they have learned in class in their own businesses and meet certain milestones. Only the highest performing entrepreneurs advance through the program, the best of which receive seed capital for their businesses of between $10-$100,000. The businesses that receive seed capital are also eligible to receive full-time support from a Sinapis Entrepreneur Consultant for up to six months following receipt of capital.
Sinapis has both a non-profit branch called Sinapis Group which handles the training and mentoring aspects of the organization and a for-profit branch called Sinapis Capital that allows external investors to invest in our highest performing entrepreneurs.
