Department

The South West regional and local weather service is an essential part of our output and a key driver in attracting audiences to the BBC.  We are looking for a weather presenter to work across radio, television and online. The successful candidate will form part of a small team who provide live and recorded forecasts for BBC television and radio stations across the BBC South West, BBC West and BBC South transmission areas.

Role

This role will be a continuing contract based in Plymouth.

You will be expected to deliver forecasts on radio, television and to contribute text for use on all platforms. Some technical aptitude is required to make use of our graphics weather system and other computer forecasting systems. You will be expected to be able to operate basic radio equipment and upload some of our video forecasts to the web. There will be an expectation of covering breakfast shifts and working weekends. This will mean producing multiple radio bulletins per shift and being flexible in order to meet business needs.

Requirements

We need someone with excellent presentation skills, broadcasting experience and a very good understanding of meteorology. You will also have the experience and skills to take complex information and turn it into a clear and engaging weather story taking into consideration the BBC’s audiences on all platforms and editorial guidelines.

Due to the number of stations serviced by our weather team you will need to be a highly resilient and resourceful broadcaster who enjoys working cooperatively as part of a team. You will normally be working on Breakfast and Lunch output but for the right person there will be opportunities to present on our 1830 and 2225 TV bulletins.

Please note as part of your application it is essential that you submit a DVD showreel no longer than 2 minutes demonstrating your presentation ability. This should be posted to Simon Read, TV Output Editor (BBC Plymouth, Seymour Road, Mannamead, Plymouth, PL3 5BD) by no later than the closing date.
