IDS Research Fellows – Business and Development (Ref 559)
Full Time
Permanent

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global charity for research, teaching and information on international development, based in Brighton.

The institute has recently established a Business and Development Centre (BDC) in order to enhance the volume and visibility of its work on business and development. The Globalisation team is the main driver of the BDC and is seeking to recruit two mid-career or senior researchers to contribute to its research and policy analysis in this area.

The work of the Globalisation team and the BDC focuses on the interface between development and business interests, investigating when and how these can be aligned, and ways in which the impacts of business on development can be rigorously assessed. The new Fellows will have undertaken research in the field of business and development, ideally with a particular focus on one of the priority areas for the team, namely food and nutrition, green transformation and the rising powers. They should have a proven ability to translate research findings into implications for policy for both the public and private sectors.

The successful candidates will have extensive research experience, a proven track record of fundraising and an excellent publications profile. They should be able and willing to be an active member of the Globalisation team and can expect to take on leadership positions in the team and/or the BDC within the next few years. Candidates must have a PhD in economics, development studies, business or a related discipline and successful, significant experience as a researcher or teacher in higher education or a research/policy institute.

Our vision is a world in which poverty does not exist, social justice prevails and economic growth is focused on improving human wellbeing.
