The position: The Ethiopia Strategy Support Program II (ESSP II) under the Development Strategy and Governance Division of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is recruiting a Research Officer to join a small team of researchers working on country development strategy issues to its Addis Ababa office located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Addis Ababa campus.
Main Duties:
  • The overall purpose of the job is to work effectively as research support within an agricultural and economic research environment.
  • The Research Officer will provide research assistance to the senior research staff of ESSP and designated staff as per the following specific functions:
  • Undertakes literature reviews; processes and synthesizes secondary household and regional data
  • Manages and conducts primary data collection, particularly through rural household and institutional Institutional surveys and value chain studies
  • Conducts statistical and econometric analyses
  • Undertakes price integration and trader behavior modeling
  • Develops and conducts training and policy dissemination
  • Any other responsibilities that will be assigned by supervisor and or/management
Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • MSc degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics or related fields
Experience:
  • 5 (Five) years working experience
Skills:
  • Proficiency in using statistical packages like STATA, SPSS and SAS
  • Good quantitative skills
  • Thorough knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and data management
  • Excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English
  • Good knowledge of the eastern and southern Africa region.
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Grade and Level: 3A
Minimum Base Salary: Birr 22,045.00 (depending on the skill & experience and salary history of the candidate this is negotiable).
Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is for a one year, fixed term, renewable appointment based on performance and funding availability.
