ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.
Our Research and Policy in Development (RAPID) Programme focuses on the relationship between research, policy and practice, and develops tools and competencies for policy influence. We are seeking a Research Officer to support the team’s broad and varied work on research uptake and impact, and to contribute to the delivery of a portfolio of high-quality and innovative research. You will work closely with the Research Fellow responsible for uptake and impact as well as other RAPID staff and researchers from across ODI.
Recent RAPID programme highlights include: • studies of the political economy of knowledge use in Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Vietnam • impact evaluations of the UN World Food Programme’s Food for Work for Disaster Risk Reduction interventions • measuring policy impact for 3ie impact evaluation grantholders and supporting their communications and policy engagement • supporting the IDRC-funded Outcome Mapping learning community (www.outcomemapping.ca) and evidence-based policy in development network (www.ebpdn.org).
About you The successful candidate will have:
• a degree and postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline • a strong background in working between research and practice, including experience outside the research environment, knowledge of research methods, and active knowledge of key issues and organisations in international development especially around the interface between impact evaluation and policy and practice. Knowledge of the policy environment will be an advantage but not essential
• experience in an international policy-oriented research environment, demonstrated by publications and reports • organisational and multi-tasking skills, with experience in producing research outputs in a short period of time and for different audiences • strong analytical, writing, presentation and networking skills • the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative.
