Department

BBC Television is the biggest integrated multimedia broadcast and production group in the world. Within this, Broadcast and Publication Operations (B&P Ops) is responsible for the operational and technical delivery of all BBC Television’s linear channels and their related broadcast services. In addition, we assure Future Media’s publication of BBC Television’s content online. Delivery of the BBC’s network Playout and Access Services (subtitling, audio description & signing) is currently outsourced and B&P Ops is responsible for managing and re-procuring these strategic contracts. As Service Assurance Manager, Access Services, you’ll strengthen our work through supporting the Operations & Development Editor (ODE) in the day to day management of the BBC’s Access Services contract.

Role

You’ll be responsible for co-ordinating engagement with all BBC production areas and teams which interface with our Access Services provider. Through this, you’ll be enabling the delivery of scheduling, programme information and media to the supplier, as well as assuring all contractual outputs. Additionally, you’ll support the Head of Broadcast & Publication Operations and colleagues in BBC Policy in developing Access Services strategy. This will involve managing relationships with OFCOM and relevant audience disability groups interested in the delivery of access services, via both linear TV channels and online.

Requirements

You’ll bring knowledge of our regulatory Access Services commitments contained in OFCOM’s Access Services Code. Furthermore, you’ll show knowledge and experience of access services production and/or operations, either within the BBC or with a ‘reactive’ broadcaster or supplier. Linked to this will be your understanding of the BBC’s portfolio of channels and services and experience of interpreting transmission and editorial policies and guidelines. As a result, you’ll know how these relate to linear broadcast and online publication. You’ll also show a deep understanding of the key drivers and technologies underpinning playout and access services delivery, and how these fit into the wider broadcast chain.
