Instructor / Senior Instructor (Research), Cardiothoracic Surgery

​The Department of Surgery aims to provide the highest quality of surgical care to its patients in accordance with international norms of excellence. There are ten sub-specialty sections including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dental-Oral, Maxillo-facial Surgery, General Surgery, Breast Diseases, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.
The Cardiothoracic Surgery (CTS) Section is responsible for care of patients with surgical conditions of the heart, lungs and other chest organs. The Section has performed a large number of complicated and complex heart operations on patients not only from Pakistan, but also from overseas. On an average, over 1,000 cardiac surgeries/procedures are being performed annually by the section of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The operations performed include the coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic surgery, heart valve replacement and repair of birth defects of the heart. The thoracic surgery operations include Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS or key-hole surgery), lung resections, surgery for pleural diseases and chest wall.
A core mission is to integrate education and research with clinical services, entailing a full range of surgical treatments including cutting-edge techniques, minimally invasive surgery and state-of-the-art procedures.
Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Instructor / Senior Instructor (Research), Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Responsibilities
The appointee will be required to:
  • provide research and educational support to CTS faculty in their clinical trials and residency training programme
  • initiate research activities, conduct research projects and collaborate within and outside the Department of Surgery
  • maintain and develop CTS database
  • identify and develop future research and funding initiatives
  • develop and manage research administration for the section.

Requirements
Candidates should have:
  • an MBBS and Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Public Health or equivalent; preference will be given to those who are enrolled in a PhD programme
  • at least two years of experience in health care
  • competency in research methodologies
  • relevant computer and data analysis skills
  • the ability to transform data into information
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
