Manager, Safety and Privacy

Facebook’s Public Policy and Privacy team is seeking a safety and privacy manager to evaluate and provide feedback on the safety and privacy impacts of existing and new products and technologies and work with other members of Facebook’s cross-functional privacy team, as well as its Global Safety Advisory Board, to implement recommended improvements. You also will be asked to engage with stakeholders, both within and outside Facebook, about privacy issues. Candidates should have a strong background in best practices for teen safety online and privacy experience reviewing the privacy implications of novel products and features. Knowledge of the online safety landscape (organizations, research, best practices) is a must. This is a full time position based at our headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.

Responsibilities

  • • Evaluate and provide guidance on the public policy implications of new products and features, with a unique focus on designing and advising on safeguards for teens (13-17)
  • • Work with software developers, designers, lawyers, product managers, and others to help interdisciplinary teams simultaneously address policy, legal, engineering, user interface, business, marketing and other privacy requirements
  • • Serve as an effective voice for Facebook regarding privacy issues, including in external meetings and conferences and with our Global Safety Advisory Board
  • • Analyze global legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data security and other technology issues
  • • Engage with global public policymakers and other third parties

Requirements

  • • 5+ years of experience with online safety, privacy, data security and technology policy issues
  • • Understanding of applicable regulatory and self-regulatory regimes
  • • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • • Ability to think and move quickly and juggle many different projects at once
  • • Proactive work ethic and strong interpersonal skills
  • • Excellent academic credentials
  • • JD preferred
