Research & Development Officer (Analysis)

About the Organization: 
Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF) is a microfinance NGO, which alleviates poverty by enabling self employment through microenterprise. It is dedicated towards reaching the most disadvantaged in rural communities and enabling the poor to improve their economic lives. It has two main programs, the Microcredit Program (MCP) and the Tshomisano Credit Program (TCP). MCP focuses on existing but generally marginal microenterprises and provides them with microloans and TCP targets only women who live below half the poverty line.
About the Job: 
Small Enterprise Foundation is seeking a Research & Development Officer (Analysis). S/he will be part of the department which will be responsible for piloting new products and services, as well as ensuring that the organization achieve its social objectives. This position is based in Tzaneen, Limpopo.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Analyze financial and operational systems;
  • Develop statistically verifiable tools;
  • Conduct research into poverty targeting measurement.
Qualifications: 
  • University degree from a first-class institution, with selected coursework in Economics and/or Statistics;
  • At least 5 years' experience in microfinance or research or analysis;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills;
  • Exposure to development sector strategies and management in rural areas;
  • Demonstrated record of participation in internationally-minded projects, programs, and/or research;
  • Skills in data analysis, market research, and poverty measurements;
  • Publication-quality English language writing skills are essential.
