Senior Program Officer, Non-Communicable Disease Prevention
New Delhi, India
The Non-Communicable Disease Prevention (NCDP) program generates new knowledge to help inform the adoption and effective implementation of policies and programs that prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries. Our focus is on the “best buys” that reduce NCD risk factors: Strategies that are low cost but have a high impact on improving population health.
As a Senior Program Officer, reporting to the Programme Leader, NCDP (based in Ottawa) while working under the supervision of the Regional Director, you will identify critical research issues and develop programming related to policy research for the prevention of NCD risk factors (tobacco use, alcohol misuse, unhealthy healthy diets and physical inactivity). Your project portfolio may cover several IDRC regions but with an emphasis in South and South East Asia. Your responsibilities will include monitoring grants, assisting with institutional capacity development activities and building linkages and synergies across teams.  You will also contribute to NCDP evaluation and learning activities and promote its models and concepts across multisectoral communities of researchers and research users.
Main qualifications:
  • PhD. (preferred), or a Master`s Degree, and record of publications in a relevant field
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant experience, which includes:
  • Conducting and managing applied research related to population health interventions in developing regions
  • Evaluating research: projects, proposals, manuscripts, technical reports or theses
  • Must have well developed and specific knowledge about health and economics in the context of the prevention of the four major NCD risk factors.
  • Must have good knowledge of key development priorities in low- and middle-income countries (especially Asia) and how these relate to issues of multisectoral policy development for NCD prevention.
