HEAD OF STRATEGY - GROWTH AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Highways Agency is responsible for managing, maintaining and improving England’s motorways and trunk roads. In this exciting new role, you will help us build something new. We are being challenged to explore new ways of facilitating sustainable economic growth. Forging strategic relationships with the economic development and development management communities, you will be a proactive champion for growth.
Yours will be a high profile role, working directly with organisations to deliver growth and economic development. You will work with senior stakeholders in local enterprise partnerships, significant developers, major business and its representative bodies, and local authorities. Actively supporting the creation and safeguarding of jobs and the delivery of related infrastructure, you will be instrumental to unlocking opportunities. What is more, within the Agency, you will foster a culture of innovation, best practice and commitment to economic growth. With the certainty of long-term funding that will accompany its proposed transformation into a Government-owned company, you will enjoy the scope to shape the future, both internally and externally.
To be equal to the challenge, you will need a proven track record in sustainable economic development or a related field - ideally with a national or regional remit. This will include experience within the economic development or development management sector. Naturally, you demonstrate knowledge of the role infrastructure plays at every level in facilitating economic growth and development. Crucially, you are committed to delivering positive outcomes for customers, and highly adept at working with senior stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial results.
Besides the uniquely rewarding nature of the job itself, the benefits that come with it are excellent. The package includes generous holiday entitlement, attractive pension options, flexible working and other policies to enable a good work/life balance. You will also benefit from our commitment to nurturing and developing talent.
