Assistant Editor, Global Project and Communications Location: US, Washington, DC

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
To support editorial operations within a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline-oriented, multimedia Division of Communications. Primarily responsible for line and copy editing of a broad range of communications materials. Assist with document layout and design using standard Adobe and Microsoft tools; Assist with the process of engaging and reviewing bids from freelance writers, editors and other vendors; Maintain an editorial calendar, update database of all writing and editorial projects and manage intake of new editorial and writing assignments; Coordinate incoming requests for copyrights and permissions to cite or reprint FHI 360 materials; Contribute, through everyday actions, to an organizational culture of diversity, commitment to social change, high performance, continuous quality improvement and innovation; Other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Office working environment; ability to travel domestically.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Previous experience in substantive editing, copy editing and basic document design.
Excellent facility with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of Adobe design products.
BS/BA in English, communications or related disciplines.
MA/MS/MBA and 1-3 years of experience, BA/BS or equivalent and 3-5 years of experience; or AA and 5-7 years of relevant experience; or HS/GED and 7-9 years of relevant experience.
