Cairo, Egypt

The Middle East is currently going through a period of rapid transformation. Citizens are seeking greater freedom and a fairer distribution of economic opportunities and resources. Oxfam - the leading charity in the fight against poverty and injustice ¬– is determined to respond to these aspirations. By raising our media exposure across the region, you’ll help us do just that.

The role

You’ll make sure that Oxfam’s messages are effectively communicated across the Middle East. It’s a wide-ranging role that will see you not only researching stories and writing press releases, but also developing our wider media strategy. By strengthening our relationships with media institutions, journalists and other key actors, you’ll raise the profile of the organisation and influence the policy agenda. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining our Arabic website and monitoring media coverage. When producing content, you’ll make sure that all our stories reflect the reality of ordinary people’s lives in the region – as well as the causes and consequences of poverty and conflict.

What we’re looking for

Dynamic and driven, you’ll have proven your credentials in a similar role already. An experienced journalist, press officer or PR professional, you’ll have a proven track record of working with both Arabic and international media. You’ll know how to spot a strong human interest story in Oxfam’s work, and how to pitch it successfully to press and broadcast organisations. Fluent in both Arabic and English, you’ll also be equally well-versed in disseminating stories through online media. More generally, you’ll be someone who can generate ideas and take the initiative.

About Oxfam

A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
