ENGINEER (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Mentor & Supervisor)

Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Manager: Engineering Services, take this opportunity to join the Engineering & Scientific Services Division on a 5 (five) year contract, where your valuable contribution will be to give technical leadership and supervision to a team of Candidate Engineers/Technicians through the design and implementation phases of water-related projects.


Key Responsibilities: • Innovative design solutions to design problems • Project Costing and Control • Environmental Awareness • SHEQ Management • Stakeholder Management • Supervision/Coaching of non-registered Engineers/Technicians.


Minimum Qualifications: • BSc Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical) with 10 (ten) years’ relevant experience in water infrastructure design, i.e. pipelines, reservoirs, pump stations and water treatment infrastructure and implementation • Registered with an appropriate body indicating professional status.


Knowledge, Skills and Competencies: The individual must have: • The ability to execute civil/mechanical/electrical/chemical projects related to the water and waste water industry • The ability to motivate and manage staff • The ability to lead a team • The ability to identify and satisfy customer needs • Good knowledge of OHAS Act and other relevant legislation • Working knowledge of Engineering Systems and good product knowledge • The ability to apply quality management principles
• The ability to derive high level cost estimates • The ability to identify and carry out risk analyses • Good financial acumen • The ability to compile and use contract documentation (FIDIC, GCC, NEC) • Proficiency in computer software specific to discipline.


This is a 5 (five) year contract appointment subject to the terms of Umgeni Water’s Conditions of Employment
