Salary: Grade 8 £36,862 - £44,016 p.a.

The KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Collaborative Research Programme, Kenya is recognised internationally within the fields of international public health, clinical tropical medicine, epidemiology and immunology. Our health and demographic surveillance system (HDSS), through which we monitor births, deaths and clinical events in a population of over 250,000, is a key feature in the Programme's scientific capacity. It provides the infrastructure that underpins a range of activities that include longitudinal surveillance for a number of specific diseases, cohort studies investigating the impact of host genetics on malaria and bacterial diseases, clinical trials and intervention studies.

We are looking for an Epidemiologist to be based at the Kenya Medical Research Institute / Wellcome Trust Collaborative Programme in Kilifi who will work closely with other senior researchers and managers responsible for the HDSS including demographers, data managers, statisticians and members of the HDSS coordinating committee. You will be responsible for the development of new research ideas that take advantage of the epidemiological and demographic infrastructure of the KHDSS. This is anticipated to involve both the use of extensive data already collected through the HDSS and the initiation of new prospective studies.

To excel in this position you will have a PhD in epidemiology or a closely related subject. You will have strong evidence of academic capacity in the form of publications or other scientific outputs. Good organisation and management skills, with excellent presentation skills both oral and written are essential.

The post is available for three years in the first instance.
