FINANCE OFFICER Concern Worldwide

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. The agency is a member of Alliance 2015 and the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY coalition. Our mission is to improve the living standards of people who cannot meet their basic needs by strengthening capacity to meet these needs and responding to emergency situations where necessary.
Concern Worldwide Uganda is now recruiting for a Finance Officer. This position is based in Kampala with significant travel within Uganda.

FINANCE OFFICER
Reporting to the Country Accountant (Head of Finance) – Kampala
Job Summary: This is a key position as part of a professional finance team supporting execution of our Uganda programmes by providing timely & accurate financial information. The role offers great variety – assisting with preparation of budgets; financial reports to Country management & Head Office in Dublin; assisting in the management of Donor grants & Donor reporting: financial oversight & monitoring of implementing Partners – local NGOs; technical support & oversight of processes and finance staff in field offices; preparation & execution of internal, donor & external audits. This role therefore requires flexibility & adaptability and a positive “can-do” attitude. The role is highly visible and provides significant opportunity for career development.

Concern receives a substantial amount of funding from external donors each year. Increasingly donors are introducing requirements whereby future funding is conditional on Concern ensuring that the names of any new employee or volunteer do not appear on terrorism lists generated by the European Union (List of person, groups and entities to which Regulation (EC No. 2580/2001 applies), the US Government (Office of Foreign Assets Control list of specially designated Nationals and Blocked Persons) and the United Nations (Consolidated list). Requirement:

Essential:
• At least 3 years professional experience in a reputable organization, preferably an international NGO.
• University Degree in Accounting or related discipline.
• Advanced (Level 2 minimum) part-Qualified Accountants (ACCA ,CPA (U) or CPA)
• Highly computer literate with excellent skills in excel & data analysis.
• Knowledge of computerized accounts package essential (Microsoft Great Plains an advantage)
• Proven attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
• Flexible & adaptable: willing to travel as required to remote field offices (although this role is Kampala based 40% of time will be spent visiting Concern field offices)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• A strong empathy for the work Concern carries out.
