This is a defining point in the history of the southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED). It’s also a pivotal time for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). We’re expanding into the region, ensuring the stable economic growth demanded by the people who live here. It’s a unique moment – and you can be part of it.

About the role
Enormous variety. Frequent travel. And a huge amount of responsibility. That’s what you can expect when you take charge of the commercial and technical viability of each of your projects. Our €3billion Power & Energy portfolio includes public and private sector hydro, thermal and renewable power projects of up to € 200 million each. You’ll help develop opportunities and monitor new and existing transactions in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, as well as in our newer SEMED markets – particularly Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan. It will be down to you to make sure that the risks, procurement arrangements and client organisation are properly addressed at every stage – from strategy right through to completion. You’ll support banking colleagues, interact with clients, and select and brief consulting firms. And we’ll also rely on you to review technical reports, tender documents and bid evaluation reports.

About you
This is a highly influential role. So your senior-level experience in the power sector must be substantial. Indeed you’ll be expert at delivering large engineering projects that include power generation, transmission, metering and utility distribution. Thoroughly familiar with power system planning and management methodologies, you’ll also understand public procurement practices and have vetted major consultancy contracts. It’s a background you’ll support with an MSc, ideally in Electrical Engineering, and a professional qualification; not forgetting the ability to operate sensitively in a multicultural environment and build productive working relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Strong analytical, planning and team working skills are essential, while knowledge of French or Arabic would be a plus.

About us
Owned by 61 countries, the European Union and the European Investment Bank, the EBRD supports projects whose funding needs cannot be fully met by the market. We have operations in 29 countries from Central Europe to Central Asia and we are currently expanding into the southern and eastern Mediterranean. Our work covers a huge variety of sectors and projects. And while each one of them is unique in the challenges it presents, all share the common goals of encouraging private investment and promoting secure and stable market economies.
