Broadcast Assistant (Upfront Producer), Radio Merseyside

Requirements

You’ll need an intimate understanding of Merseyside’s African, Caribbean and mixed heritage communities. You’ll be aware of what black people are talking about on the streets of Liverpool and the stories that are affecting people's lives. A good knowledge of the local black cultural scene would be useful too. Beyond that, you’ll need an excellent sense of what makes great radio.

It’s essential that you have a clear understanding of the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines as they apply to a live interactive programme like Upfront, and the ability to react under pressure to ensure the programme is always compliant with the guidelines.

You’ll need the authority and communication skills to inspire the presenter to give of her best and the persuasive skills to get the best out of callers and other contributors. You’ll also need the confidence to interact with colleagues in the radio station and suggest ideas to other programmes.

The role involves using a variety of studio technical equipment and software and you’ll need the ability to quickly learn a variety of production techniques. Training can be provided to the right candidate, but experience of live radio production would be a significant advantage.

We want someone who shares our ambition for Upfront, who can help to make it even more relevant and engaging to the local community.

You’ll be required to work three and a half hours a week on a Saturday evening between 6.45pm and 10.15pm.

For an informal chat about this opportunity, call Managing Editor Mick Ord on 0151 794 0910 or Assistant Editor Jonathan Hallewell on 07885 224583.
Interviews are likely to take place w/c 9 January 2012.
