To strengthen our International Trade Compliance Department we are looking for an International Trade Compliance Specialist (m/f).

The position is a full-time contract based in Everberg, near Brussels and reports to the ITC EAME manager in Basel.

The International Trade Compliance (ITC) Team

  • The ITC team is part of the Huntsman Legal Department and is organized as a Corporate Shared Service Center with global responsibility over all five Huntsman Divisions: Polyurethanes, Pigments, Textile Effects, Performance Products and Advance Materials.
  • The ITC Team is responsible for ensuring compliance with WTO and WCO Customs based regulations as well as export control international regulations such as the Wassenaar Arrangement on control of dual use goods and technologies, UN sanctioned embargoes, and the United States Antiboycott regulations.
  • The ITC team is a multinational team composed of member of diverse professional competences including attorneys, chemists, customs brokers, and former customs officers.
  • The ITC team is divided in three regions: Europe & the Middle East, Asia and the Americas region.

Principal accountabilities and responsibilities include:

  • In close collaboration with the ITC EAME manager, provide ITC advice to the Supply Chain, Purchasing, Technology, and Customer Service departments. Serve as point of contact for questions and request raised by distributors, agents, and customers on diverse legal issues involving customs and export control matters.
  • Perform analysis of EC customs and export controls regulations as well as EU members national legislation; translate legal requirements into the company processes; promote and contribute to the development and implementation of necessary action plans to ensure the company compliance with legal requirements.
  • Assist the ITC team in the development and further implementation of audit, procedures and manuals.
  • Oversee trade compliance training programs for various departments and create detailed document recordkeeping and reporting methods; perform business audits.
  • Monitor company transactions with the use of SAP-Global Trade Services to ensure compliance with sanctioned embargoes, export denied party lists, and restrictions on the exports of dual-use goods.
  • Assist the EAME ITC Manager in handling of audits performed by EU Customs and Export Control authorities.
  • Travel up to 20% of working time.

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • University degree in Law, or alternatively university degree in Supply Chain Management or Chemistry complemented with 2/3 years in a regulatory compliance position either with an international corporation or a consultancy firm.
  • Strong analytical skills are a requisite. The position requires the ability to tackle complex legal matters involving multiple jurisdictions and to translate legal requirements into company policies and procedures. The candidate must be able to provide clear and concise advice, take decisions and propose solutions.
  • Aptitude to communicate effectively before medium size audiences. The position will require the performance of training on ITC matters throughout our European plants.
  • Knowledge of European Customs and export control legislation is desired. The ITC team is willing to gradually develop the candidate expertise in the International Trade Compliance field.
  • The candidate must be customer oriented, a good team player and must show the capacity to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written English. Dutch, German, or French skills are an asset.
