Internship - Project Assistant

DURATION 6 months REQUIRED COMPETENCIES Degree in Agronomy, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Geology

Good organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work cooperatively Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel. Fluency in written and spoken English and Italian. Willingness to undertake a qualifying experience in the development cooperation sector, and to capitalize on it. Demonstrate experience and knowledge of environmental protection and natural resources management techniques. DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES Previous experience in developing countries. Experiences in planning of grazing in mountain areas, in reforestation of bare areas and in installation of fruit gardens, nurseries and/or greenhouses Knowledge of environmental technologies (Contour ploughing, Contour bench terracing, Gully plugging, Mulching, crop rotation, use of organic fertilizer) WORK CONTEXT Since 2001 Cesvi has been present in Tajikistan working mainly on water and environmental hygiene issues. After 5 years of post-emergency activities, Cesvi has started to move through development actions in order to insure long term sustainability for rural populations. Nowadays Cesvi has a Country office in Dushanbe and is implementing, with a wide range of partners, several projects in different districts of the country. The mains areas of intervention are rural development/food security, water and sanitation, environmental protection and social business.

JOB DESCRIPTION The collaboration will start in February 2011. The main duty station will be the Regional Office Khovaling district (south of Tajikistan, Khatlon region); with possible travels to the main office in Dushanbe (the capital of the Country) and other field offices (in Khujand region and in Hamadoni district) The intern will act as Program Officer assisting and supporting the Project Manager (PM).

Main tasks: -She/he will support the PM in developing and coordinate the projects' activities in Khatlon region; -She/he will support the PM in the management of all resources (human, financial and material) within organizational parameters in Khatlon region; -She/he will support the PM in undertaking regular visits to each activity location to gain a clear understanding of projects conditions, requirements, and constraints; -She/he will support the PM in supervising and supporting the local staff by setting clear work goals and objectives; -Liaise with other International and Local NGOs; -Assist in administration's activities in Khatlon region; -Assist the PM in drafting new project proposals.

The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. The Intern will respond to the Country Representative/ Project Manager and to the HQ Desk Officer.

THE INTERN IS UNPAID. CESVI WILL PROVIDE HOUSING AND INSURANCE.
