Kuwait Protection Officer, P3

• Directs the activities of the office relating to international protection, including prevention of refoulement, abusive detention and arbitrary police action;
• Provides advice to officials involved in the determination of refugee status;
• Conducts eligibility interviews and provides protection to refugees and persons of concern to UNHCR by ensuring the observance by the competent authorities of universally recognized principles of refugee law;
• Monitors all protection issues and coordinates with concerned local authorities and NGO’s to ensure that UNHCR is fully informed on the situation of refugees in the region;
• Assists in the dissemination of refugee law with academic institutions, law enforcement officials, immigration and border authorities for effective protection of refugees and asylum seekers;
• Liaises with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of ID cards, travel documents and work permits to refugees in order to facilitate movement and local integration;
• Prepares periodic and annual reports on protection activities within the assigned region for submission to the head of office and headquarters;
