The Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg is looking for a

Legal Teaching and Research Fellow for projects in Sudan and South Sudan under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Wolfrum

The MPIL is a research facility which is part of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, an independent, non-profit research organization that primarily promotes and supports research at its own institutes. Within the framework of its research activities, the MPIL carries out several "Global Knowledge Transfer Projects" abroad. With a view to supporting constitutionbuilding processes and to strengthening the rule of law and democratization efforts, the MPIL also conducts several projects in Sudan and South Sudan (see www.mpil.de/red/africa).

Project fellows are engaged in technical legal consultancies, the organisation of conferences and legal capacity building programmes. Fellows also prepare teaching materials focused on international law and comparative constitutional law and conduct workshops in the respective countries.

Desired Experience and Required Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in law (preferably the second German state exam or comparable advanced degree in law);
• Profound knowledge of public international law, constitutional law and/or the legal systems of Islamic/African countries;
• Ability to deliver high-level academic work;
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently to Sudan and South Sudan;
• Fluency in English required (written and oral);
• Computer literacy skills with standard software;
• Excellent interpersonal, communicational and intercultural skills;
• Proven ability to work in a team;
• Well-organized, flexible, skilled in setting priorities and meeting deadlines, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
• Ability to communicate in German on a professional level desirable;
• Knowledge of Arabic a distinct advantage;
• Previous teaching and/or work experience in developing countries desirable.

The salary and benefits follow the guidelines for German public service employees (TVöD).
