Position for Research Director

Background information

APEC Climate Center (APCC) is a leading climate information service provider in the Asia-Pacific region. We provide seasonal climate forecasts and other climate information products and services, conduct research and development activities, and organize capacity building initiatives for developing countries in the region. APEC Climate Center is looking for Research Director to expand the areas of research and services to cater to wider socio-economic needs and interests. The position will manage overall R&D activities and associated services.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Spearhead, direct, and oversee Center’s research projects from research design to implementation, analysis and product development.

• Supervise the research staff. Set departmental and individual employee goals and provide routine evaluations of progress toward these goals. Identify and promote professional growth opportunities for staff. Ensure adherence to professional standards and ethics of prospect research.

• Provide a guideline for Center’s activities including cooperative researches and outreach programs.

• Evaluate research tools and maintain high-quality research level of the Center.

• The position manages four team leaders of the climate research department and reports to the Director of APEC Climate Center.


Qualifications

• PhD with background in climate science or related fields.

• Having at least twenty years’ experience of research in climate variability and predictability at the international level.

• Having strong experience in research planning and management

• Having extensive experience in providing and managing the climate information service and user interaction programs.

• Ability to develop and implement international collaborative projects.

• Knowledge and ability to implement principles of management, leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, and motivation.

• Show a good understanding of the Center’s mission, goal and activities.

• Excellent oral and written skills in English.


Salary

• More than 80,000,000 Korean won per annum, and additional benefits will be provided.
