Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Occupational Hygienist to join our Health team at our UK, Reading offices. The purpose of the position is to provide specialist occupational hygiene advice and support to the Group Health team and health representatives in the Global Assets.
The jobholder will help to improve the understanding of the physical, chemical, ergonomic, biological and psychological health hazards in the workplace and offer advice on how to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with them. The jobholder will support the development of and deliver the occupational hygiene program, which will be data driven to substantiate any potential health effects and demonstrate good risk management.
Key Accountabilities
  • Providing expert technical advice and support the development of a roadmap and 3 year improvement plan for occupational hygiene across BG Group.
  • Support Group and Asset HSSE and Asset Management colleagues to identify, evaluate and control health risks, developing proposals for risk reduction measures as appropriate and ensuring implementation.
  • Monitor and analyse data from occupational hygiene studies commissioned by Assets e.g. on water quality, presence of lead or other chemicals; including incident investigation and post incident monitoring.
  • Support and lead the development of health promotion programs e.g. hearing conservation and water management across the organisation.
  • Provide technical information for eLearning modules, as part of the on-line training programme and provide training and information on occupational hygiene.
  • Make recommendations on service delivery and leads reviews of site specific OH procedures.
  • Set standards for the measurement and monitoring of workplace health hazards and provide follow up and investigate health-related incidents.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant occupational hygiene requirements and maintain links with external professional bodies and Regulators.
  • Collect and communicate best practice from inside and outside BG and provide advice to Group Health and the business on new and evolving legislation and good practice.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Knowledge and experience:
  • A qualified occupational hygienist holding the BOHS Diploma or working towards this qualification or similar qualification.
  • A relevant scientific degree would be desirable.
Skills and attributes:
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering an occupational hygiene function in appropriate industries.
  • Experience of maintaining a high level CPD programme.
  • Able to assess and analyse large quantities of sometimes conflicting scientific data on health hazards and come to a realistic and acceptable conclusion.
  • Well developed presentation and training skills and the ability to change behaviour.
    Needs to be self-driven and productive, while also working with others and following Group guidance.

Must be able to undertake short term international travel for purposes of providing technical advice and support to BG Group assets.
