The Organisation

As a long-term investor in Kazakhstan, BG Group is the joint operator of the giant Karachaganak gas condensate field and a shareholder in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). The Karachaganak field is one of the largest gas and condensate fields in the world. Operated by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO), a joint venture between BG Group and our partners, this is one of our largest and most technologically challenging assets with estimated gross reserves of over 2.4 billion barrels of condensate and 16 trillion cubic feet of gas.

Position Summary

This position is part of a new combined Developments and Operations group in BG Kazakhstan based in Astana, which is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of BG’s interest in Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field. KPO is currently engaged in planning the next major multi-billion dollar phases of field development.
Reporting to the Reservoir Manager, the Development Geologist is responsible for all aspects of reservoir geology and geophysics, providing technical guidance and advice to KPO in support of Karachaganak mid-long term Field Development Planning and Development. As such, the incumbent has the opportunity to play a pivotal role in driving the creation of sub-surface development concepts that will underpin the next 20-30 years of Karachaganak production.
The position will include extensive engagement with the new KPO Development Planning group in Astana, KPO Operations team in Aksai, as well as within BG Kazakhstan, both in Astana and TVP.

Key Accountabilities
• Develops 3D geological models that effectively characterise the reservoir in order to support development planning
• Co-ordinate all geological and geophysical internal and external studies.
• Provide input to development well planning and data acquisition strategy, and monitor all geological operations
• Ensure effective integration of static modelling workflow with other disciplines, especially reservoir engineering
• Give inputs to field development plans.
• Presents results to BG management and gains approval for proposed work program.
• Ensures technical work carried out is consistent with BG Value Assurance Framework
• Responsible for implementing, maintaining and improving geology and geophysics functional excellence across the BG Kazakhstan asset.
• Creates strong technical relationship with KPO & BG Advance

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
• Experienced development geologist; preferably with carbonates experience
• Skilled in static modelling, preferably Petrel
• Broad subsurface background and good understanding of reservoir uncertainty
• Understanding and willingness to learn from other disciplines like well and reservoir engineering.
• Ability to work tight deadlines and to provide accurate and concise information
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Skilled at building and maintaining relationships with JV partners and other stakeholders
