Corporate Security Manager, Europe & Africa

Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across the spirits, wine and beer categories. These brands include Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness, Baileys, J&B and Tanqueray.

  • Corporate Security sits within the Group Legal function and the Director of Corporate Security reports directly to the General Counsel, Tim Proctor, a member of the Diageo Executive Board.

  • Corporate Security's mission is to protect Diageo's people, assets, reputation and future development through setting policies and standards and monitoring their implementation, by providing decision makers with forward looking security reports and by providing expert guidance and services, including investigations, to the businesses.

This is a new deputy position and is responsible for supporting a proactive security function for the Region. In addition, there may be occasions where it will be necessary to support the Global Corporate Security agenda.
The role holder will be responsible for the management of programs and systems designed to protect employees and assets. The work will cover Protecting People, Protecting Assets, Conducting Investigations, Intelligence Issues and Program Management

Leadership Responsibilities




  • Work in support of the two regional heads of security (Europe and Africa) to provide proactive, pragmatic security advice and solutions for the Markets.

  • Undertake projects (such as event security planning) as directed

  • Carry out independent internal investigations as directed.

  • Work with the businesses and other internal stakeholders (e.g. HR, Legal, Compliance & Ethics and Corporate Relations) on relevant matters affecting the Markets including counterfeit issues.

  • Build up an effective internal and external (law enforcement, government and elsewhere) networks to assist with the protection of the Diageo business.



Purpose of Role

The role holder will be responsible for:


  • Having a comprehensive understanding of all the businesses within the regions and the risks they face and providing appropriate advice.

  • Creating and driving proactive security programmes, with stakeholders, to ensure the continued safe and effective operations of the company.

  • Assuring the physical security of facilities and personnel including conducting security vulnerability assessments.

  • Conducting investigations as required.

  • Preparing high quality reports including intelligence briefing, threats assessments and investigative reports.

  • Contributing to the global response to crises and significant events.

  • Establishing and maintaining close liaison with relevant law enforcement and government officials.

  • Delivering security training and awareness for employees and providing professional security advice and consultation to corporate management.



Top 3-5 accountabilities


  • Undertaking investigations and project work as required

  • Building and maintaining effective contacts in relevant law enforcement. Regulatory and industry bodies.

  • Delivering high quality, forward looking briefing papers and threat assessments, and other reports as directed.

  • Driving proactive programmes to mitigate current and emerging risks and trends.



Qualifications and experience required


  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military, government security/intelligence or corporate security is required

  • Good understanding of general security including: threat and developing risk analysis, conducting site surveys, crisis management and executive protection.

  • Strong integrity

  • International experience – prior living or working in more than one country would be useful

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Good written (English) skills to prepare documentation for corporate leadership or governmental agencies.

  • Ability to stay focused by constantly reassessing priorities and managing expectations within the business.

  • Ability to work confidently, persuasively and to gain the respect and trust of other senior managers.

  • Flexible attitude to travel
