Job Description
The United Nations Association of Australia seeks an Executive Director

Reporting to: National President and National Executive
Hours: Part time- up to 30 hours per week (negotiable)
Salary range: $60,000 - $70,000 pro rate, commensurate with experience

The main aim of the United Nations Associations globally is to ensure that the public are aware of the work of the United Nations and the important role that it plays in peace building, poverty reduction and capacity building. The Candidate

We are seeking an innovative and strategic thinker who is interested in the work of the United Nations. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing competing deadlines, providing support to a wide range of stakeholders and working in resource constrained environments. A strong understanding of government relations, resource mobilization and events management will be expected.


Role and Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement policies and strategies that will enhance the effectiveness of the UNAA nationally. These may include policies and strategies to enhance governance, communications, community engagement and advocacy outcomes.
2. Prepare funding submissions to Government, Non Government Organizations and/or relevant Foundations to obtain financial support for the UNAA’s role and activities. This will include developing new ideas and partnerships in areas of the UN’s work that the UNAA can make a positive impact on.
3. Establish and/or manage strategic partnerships and relationships between the Federal Executive, the President and other groups to maximize success and outcomes for the UNAA. This could include media, WFUNA, other UN organizations or those in support of the UN, the UN Parliamentary Group, and the UN Academic Network etc.
4. Manage national projects and campaigns, such as the UNAA Security Council Campaign and the Pacific Project. Specifically, ensure all sponsorship deliverables are met and reporting requirements adhered to.
5. Administer the National Office, including managing enquiries and general correspondence, supporting the work of the National President, co-ordinating UNAA participation in federal government consultations and issuing media releases relating to national UNAA activities.
6. Co-ordinate the National Executive, by organising regular National Executive Teleconferences and the Annual National Council Meeting with comprehensive meeting papers, and co-ordinating strategy, branding and national campaigns where appropriate.
7. Ensure that the UNAA Website is up to date and effective, and that other communication and outreach materials such as UNity are relevant and engaging.
8. Represent the UNAA at networking and other events and meetings with or on behalf of the National President or the Federal Executive.
9. Prepare reports and other documentation (including the Annual Report) to meet appropriate accountability requirements.


Selection Criteria:
1. Demonstrated understanding of and experience in moblising resources to support campaigns and events.
2. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience in working with government and developing content for websites/ events
Strong understanding of how to build and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
3. Experience in project design and management
4. Strong understanding of volunteer management
5. Understanding of the United Nations, the work of UNAA and the opportunities ahead (in your opinion) for the organisation in the next 3 -5 years.
