Humanitarian Programme Coordinator Oxfam Yangon

Humanitarian Programme Coordinator, Myanmar

Yangon, Myanmar
Globally competitive salary and benefits package
2 years fixed term contract, accompanied post
Through effective humanitarian, advocacy, campaigning and policy change initiatives, Oxfam are committed to finding sustainable solutions to the issues faced by the people of Myanmar. In this hugely important and challenging role, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering the humanitarian support, management and leadership in Myanmar.
The role
An experienced manager you will lead Oxfam’s humanitarian programme in Myanmar, providing the direction, focus and long-term vision to ensure its relevance to the local context, as well as to the broader international Oxfam context. That means reviewing the current situation in country and determining how our contingency plans and existing programmes measure up. It also means building on the capabilities of Oxfam and our teams on the ground – teaching, training and passing on expertise to ensure humanitarian work meets the highest standards. You’ll work with others, affiliates and partners alike, to develop a strategy based on insight, analysis and review to drive us forward and strengthen our capacity to address short and long term needs. Risk reduction, emergency preparedness and response capacity will be high on the agenda and it will be your responsibility to keep these under regular review and lead on programme design and preparation.
What we’re looking for
Such a high profile and important role calls for an inspirational leader with experience in emergency and development management – experience gained with another not for profit organisation. You’ll certainly have led and coordinated rapid needs assessments before, and you’ll have the know-how to develop effective capacity building initiatives and innovative humanitarian strategies. Specific experience of working in the Region would obviously be an advantage. But whether or not you’ve worked there before, you’ll need a good understanding of the country’s cultural, social and political make up, its ongoing gender issues, as well as the ability to speak English fluently; knowledge of Myanmar is desirable but not essential. A strong communicator, you’ll show impeccable judgement in complex situations, know how to get the best out of those around you and how to get things done.
