Kenyatta University wishes to recruit qualified and dedicated applicants for vacant positions in the following offices:

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES

DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D Degree from a recognized university or have successfully defended a Ph.D thesis in their area of specialization.

Applicants should be qualified in the following areas:

  • Medical Bacteriology
  • Medical Virology
  • Haematology and Blood Transfusion
  • Forensic Science
  • Human Anatomy

In addition, the applicant must have a full time university teaching as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years.

Tutorial Fellow
Applicants must be holders of Masters Degree or its equivalent in any of the following areas from a recognized university:
  • Haematology and Transfusion
  • Forensic Science
  • Human Anatomy
  • Medical Virology
  • Medical Bacteriology

Applicants must have BSc in Medical Laboratory Science. In addition, the applicant must show evidence of teaching at university level.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach and pursue Ph.D Degree in the relevant field.

DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Professor

Applicants must be holders of Ph.D Degree or its equivalent in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • Twelve (12) years of university teaching as Lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor
  • Successfully supervised at least four (4) Masters students and at least two (2) Ph.D students since being appointed Associate Professor
  • At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
  • Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor
  • Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops
  • Applicants must be registered by the Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Board and have specialised recognition.
Associate Professor
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D Degree or its equivalent in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as full time Senior Lecturer.
  • Successfully supervised at least four (4) Masters students and one (1) Ph.D student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer.
  • At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer.
  • Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer.
  • Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

Senior Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D Degree or its equivalent in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized university.

  • Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer.

Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D or its equivalent in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • Have attained the professional level of Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience or clinical experience.
  • Evidence of supervision of graduate students, academic leadership, teamwork and research.
  • Be registered by the Medical Practitioner’s and Dentists’ Board and have specialized recognition.
Holders of Masters Degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology who have attained the level of Consultant will be considered.

Applicants with Masters Degrees should also have MMED too.

DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY Professor
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D Degree in any of the following fields from a recognized University:
  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology

In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • Twelve (12) years of university teaching as Lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor
  • Successfully supervised at least four (4) Masters students and at least two (2) Ph.D students since being appointed Associate Professor
  • At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
  • Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor
  • Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching

Associate Professor
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D Degree in any of the following fields from a recognized University:
  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology
In addition the applicant must have the following:
  • Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as full time Senior Lecturer.

  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology

In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as full time Lecturer.
  • Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer.
  • Successful supervision of at least three (3) Masters students.
  • Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer.
  • Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.
Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of a Ph.D Degree in any of the following fields from a recognized university OR have successfully defended Ph.D thesis.

Holders of MMED in any of these fields will be considered:

  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology
In addition the applicant must have Full time university teaching as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years

Tutorial Fellow
  • Applicants must be holders of MMED pathology or MSc. Degree in the relevant field from a recognized university.
  • In addition the applicant must be prepared to pursue a Ph.D Degree in the area of specialization.
  • Applicants with MBChB and MSc. Degree in the following areas from a recognized university may also be considered:
  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology

Technician - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher Diploma (HD) from a recognized institution in any of the following areas:

  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology

In addition, the applicant must have the following:

  • KCE Division II or KCSE Mean Grade C+ (plus) and above
  • At least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy teaching, research or pharmaceutical laboratory
  • Computer literacy
  • Leadership and administrative skills.

Candidates with an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Ordinary Diploma (OD) in the fields mentioned below will also be considered on condition that they have at least five (5) years of relevant working experience:

  • Parasitology

Technician - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE Mean Grade C (plain) and above.

They must have a minimum professional qualification of Ordinary Diploma in any of the following areas from a recognized institution:

  • Parasitology
  • Microbiology
  • Anatomic pathology
  • Immunology
  • Haematology

In addition, applicants must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy teaching, research or hospital laboratory and must be computer literate.

DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY AND ORTHOPAEDICS (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Professor
Applicants must be holders of Ph.D in the relevant area. In addition, the applicant must have the following:

  • Twelve (12) years of university teaching as Lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor

In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as full time Lecturer.
  • Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer.
  • Successful supervision of at least three (3) Masters students.
  • Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer.

DIRECTORATE OF GRANTS WRITING AND MANAGEMENT

Senior Administrative Assistant (Grant Writing Function) – Grade E/F

Applicants must be holders of Masters Degree in Language and Linguistics OR Library and Information Science and have worked for at least three (3) years in a large busy Grant Writing office.

The applicant should have the following qualities:

  • Technical writing skills
  • Editing and formatting on electronic platforms
  • Communications skills
  • Familiarity with information management systems
  • Preferable postgraduate level training in communication, journalism and mass communication

The Senior Administrator will be required to carry out the following duties:

  • Support writing, reviewing and submission of grant proposals
  • Maintaining an efficient archiving system for donor agencies, calls for proposals, proposals submitted; and approved grants
  • Review periodic and final project technical reports to ensure quality control
  • Ensure grantees comply with agreed reporting schedules and other requirements
  • Support publicity aspects for grant projects including profiling of projects on university website and other outlets
  • Respond to any queries from donors regarding technical reports

Senior Administrative Assistant (Grant Management Function) – Grade E/F

Applicants must be holders of Masters in Business Administration with Accounting, Budget Management and Financial reporting skills. In addition, the applicant should have a minimum of three (3) years work experience.

  • The Senior Administrator will be required to carry out the following duties:
  • Ensure requests for funds by grantees comply with agreed budget
  • Assist grantees to develop periodic and final project financial reports that comply with donor requirements
  • Support an internal M&E function to ensure proper management and smooth implementation of grant projects
  • Maintaining an efficient system for tracking project budgets; proactively detecting and preventing problems in budget management
  • Responding to any queries from donors regarding financial reports
  • Applicants with experience of operations of donor organizations and donor funded projects would be valuable.

SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES

PHYSICS DEPARTMENT
Chief Technician - Grade 11
Applicants must be holders of a B.Sc. Degree in Electrical and Electronics or Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized University. In addition, applicants must have the following:

  • At least five (5) years relevant working experience in a busy teaching or research laboratory as a senior Technician
  • Be computer literate
  • Demonstrate leadership and administrative skills.

Candidates with a Masters Degree in the relevant field will also be considered.

DEPUTY VICE – CHANCELLOR (Administration) OFFICE

Telephone Technician - Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of Higher National Diploma in Telecommunication from a recognized institution.
In addition the applicant must have the following:

  • KCE Division II or KCSE Mean Grade C+ (Plus) and above.
  • At least three (3) years relevant working experience as Telephone operator in a busy learning institution.
  • Evidence of computer literacy.
  • Certificate in CISCO Networking.

Applicants for the post of Lecturer and above can either be considered for part-time or full-time job. Please indicate your preference.

Terms of Service:

The terms of service for the above include a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. Successful candidates will be offered two (2) year renewable performance based contract and gratuity will be given at the end of the contract.
