Program Coordinator - Earth Journalism Network

The Program Coordinator will assist with the management and development of Internews’ environmental programs. In particular our Earth Journalism Network (EJN) supports, enables and empowers dozens of partner organizations and thousands of journalists working on environmental media, with a particular focus on the developing world. The Program Coordinator will play a hands-on role in EJN projects being carried out around the world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide administrative and management support for EJN projects, as needed;
  • Work with Internews staff to devise and follow through on development strategies that will help generate government and private donor support for Internews’ environmental programs;
  • Represent Internews’ environmental programs at key conferences and meetings;
  • Assist with and coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of other EJN activities, and with reporting where feasible.
  • Work with the EJN Executive Director to build, improve and maintain the EJN website;
  • More specific tasks will include:
  • Managing journalism Fellowship programs to major environmental conferences such as the Rio+20 Earth Summit and the annual Climate Summits
  • Overseeing the selection, distribution, partner implementation and reporting of the Earth Journalism Grants
  • Organizing the annual EJN Development Conference
  • Overseeing EJN’s Monitoring and Evaluation program
  • Helping to produce proposals and narrative reports
  • Liaising with EJN’s partners on funding, management, planning and implementation of our joint programs
  • Overseeing Fellowship selection processes
  • Managing project logistics and administrative tasks

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Prior experience working on environmental issues and/or as a journalist
  • Strong project management skills: at least 1-3 years project management or development experience, including field experience, OR a relevant advanced degree
  • Superior analytical and writing ability for proposal development and writing narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to work remotely with colleagues around the world, including a willingness to occasionally communicate and work during non-standard business hours
  • Fluency in English and strong oral communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with report and proposal writing
  • Experience with MS Excel and Word
  • Experience with event organizing and/or making complex travel arrangements
  • Proven organization skills, with attention to detail
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize with a shifting workload
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Relevant university degree
  • Eligibility to work in either the US or the UK

Preferred

  • Foreign language skills
  • Experience with financial management and book-keeping
  • Experience with event planning and/or arranging logistics for project implementation abroad
  • Experience preparing expense reports and budgets
