Senior Project Manager based in Amsterdam

The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) was founded in 2009 and is supported by the Academic Medical Center, the University of Amsterdam, and the Free University (VU).
In addition, its constituents include a number of non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), such as the PharmAccess Foundation, The Health Insurance Fund and the Medical Credit Fund, which have a pivotal place in the consortium. Prof. dr. Joep M.A. Lange is the Executive Scientific Director of the AIGHD.
The AIGHD mission is to provide sustainable solutions to major health problems across our planet, by forging synergies between disciplines, health care delivery, research and education. AIGHD links expertise, resources and programs from institutions that are involved in health-related research, education and capacity building. By doing this, it brings a “delivery perspective” to health research, and a “quality aspect” to health care services in countries with more limited resources.

Job Description

Within the AIGHD foundation a wide variety of projects (including biomedical, laboratory, health economics) are implemented. Generally a project team consists at the minimum of a Scientific project leader and a Project Manager/ Programme Coordinator who work in close collaboration with Scientific Team members in order to successfully implement, conduct and complete the project. Depending on the scope and size of the project, additional key positions are added to the project team.

The Scientific Project Leader/PI has final responsibility for ensuring that the scientific objectives of the project are successfully achieved.

The Project Manager is responsible for monitoring the progress of the project, and for ensuring timely reporting on the scientific, administrative and financial progress of the project according to applicable requirements and guidelines.

Project Managers within AIGHD may also be involved in Project Acquisition.

Key Responsibilities

· Ensure monitoring and reporting on the scientific and administrative milestones and deliverables of the project up to the level required in close collaboration with the Scientific Project leader/PI and scientific team members involved in the project

· Ensure and monitor that the planned project activities are implemented within agreed timelines
Ensure that internal and external reporting requirements are met within agreed timelines

• Ensure timely and transparent administration of project finance in close collaboration with Manager finance/ControllerEnsure relevant donor regulations are respected within the project

• Maintain Financial overview/ budget monitoring

• Approve project expenses, taking into account the available budget and ensure optimal use of available funds

• Ensure proper project-related logistical arrangements and procurement

• Ensure appropriate follow up of all project-related legal and contract issues
Ensure internal AIGHD policy and procedures are taken into account during implementation of the project

• Maintain an electronic and paper project file according to donor and AIGHD requirements

• Signal irregularities within the project / conduct risk analyses and communicate these to the Head of Projects and Scientific Project Leader

• Central liaison with AIGHD within the (project) consortium

Other Responsibilities

· Assist with an evaluation of the operational, financial and administrative aspects of novel

· Assist with preparing the financial and administrative portions of novel research proposals, including a budget

· Propose essential project tracking metrics for novel research proposals

· Understand acquisition risks & strategies for those risks

· Share experience with other project managers and thereby contribute to building institutional memory with AIGHD

Requirements

Trained at an academic level

Experience and Knowledge
Essential

· Minimal 3 years of working experience in scientific and administrative project and grants

· Management in an international context, and with managing of EU framework grants in particular

· Interest in (global) health research (particular interest in/experience with HIV related projects is considered an advantage)

· Fluent in Dutch and English (written and spoken)

· Competent in use of standard office software

· Competent in use of project management software

· Enjoy working as a team

· Experience with financial management

Excellent communication skills, flexible personality, excellent ability to multi-task and problem solving, independent, structured and organized.
