Chief Executive Officer English Schools Foundation

The English Schools Foundation (ESF) was established by the Hong Kong Government in 1967 and is the largest education foundation in Asia offering a liberal education through the medium of the English language to children of school age. ESF now operates five secondary schools, nine primary schools, two "all-through" Private Independent Schools, four kindergartens and a school for students with special needs. Our 17,000 students are drawn from over 50 nationalities. Increasingly, our schools are also the destination of choice for local families.

The Position 
Reporting to the Board of Governors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the principal academic and most senior executive of the English Schools Foundation (ESF). The CEO, managing an annual budget in excess of HK$ 1.3 billion, also oversees more than 3,000 full and part-time staff members.

Leading with vision, the CEO is responsible for the management and professional direction of ESF schools, ensuring that ESF and its schools are run in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong, the Education Ordinance and The ESF Ordinance.

The CEO is expected to provide strategic vision and leadership in establishing and implementing objectives, policies and plans towards achievement of ESF's Strategic Plan. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of the day to day management of ESF and its activities including development and management of a sound organisation plan, financial management, resource allocation, oversight of educational excellence and management of senior staff. 

The CEO is an ex-officio member of the ESF Board of Governors. This role involves constant and balanced interfacing with the constituent bodies. The CEO will represent ESF as appropriate in all its external relationships, e.g. the Hong Kong SAR Government, the media, Chambers of Commerce and Hong Kong society in general. 

Candidate Profile

The CEO must possess exceptional academic qualifications, solid managerial and administrative experience gained from complex and sizeable education organisations, and have a deep understanding of, and passion for, international education. He/she must be a strong relationship builder and a proven chief executive, who is able to balance the interests of multiple stakeholders, cultivate client relationships and well versed in all aspects of leading and managing a sizable entity. He/she must possess undisputed strategic vision and leadership, the knowledge and the foresight, as well as the ability to command and motivate individuals to work towards a common goal.
