About the role

Unprecedented regulatory and economic change poses far reaching challenges to the UK. The framework for trading in financial markets and post trade processes and infrastructure are coming under scrutiny as never before. Responsible for a range of trade and post-trade issues, you’ll play an important role in building solutions. Assessing regulatory reforms and market developments, you’ll be instrumental in promoting safe, efficient and orderly retail and wholesale markets. You’ll strive to ensure economic growth and the competitiveness of the UK as a global hub for financial markets.

Leading UK negotiations on European legislation related to securities and markets issues, you’ll collaborate with experts in UK government and industry to formulate policy positions. We’ll expect you to develop strong relationships with the Bank of England, FSA, financial services industry and other relevant sectors and organisations, both domestically and internationally. You’ll also conduct influential negotiations with experts from across the EU.

About you

To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need proven expertise and experience in financial market issues - ideally from both an industry and regulatory perspective. You’ll demonstrate knowledge - and preferably experience - of European policy, EU processes and institutions. You have an ability to understand and analyse new and complex subject areas, matched with a flair for communicating complexity clearly and concisely to varied audiences, including non-experts. Although you’re definitely a team player, you’re also able to work independently, using your sound judgement to formulate and manage a programme of work to meet deadlines and priorities.
