Senior Teacher - Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan

Senior Teacher - Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan (IRQ-S-668)
The British Council in Iraq is recruiting a Senior Teacher for the new teaching centre in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan. We offer a two-year contract starting in April 2013. UK, US, Australian or New Zealand passport essential.

We are looking for a self-sufficient senior teacher with a DELTA or Trinity Dip. TESOL to lead and manage the public courses at the new Teaching Centre (currently 1800 class hours a year). You must be able to manage and set up a new public courses business and adapt to whatever business comes through the door. The centre is new so systems and procedures are not fully in place yet. Flexibility and the ability to deal with last minute situations will be a huge advantage. If you are looking for a well-established Teaching Centre to work in, this post is not for you.

Teaching is exam preparation (IELTS long courses and induction workshops), general English and skills workshops for adults. IELTS is 90% of the teaching at the moment so experience in teaching IELTS preparation is essential. There are no YLs at the moment but it is planned for 2014.

You must have experience of general management of a teaching centre, as well as course design and delivery relevant to the demand here in Erbil. In addition, you will be able to undertake marketing and support teachers’ professional development requirements. We would particularly like to receive applications from applicants who are also IELTS examiners as there is a significant need for examiners at the moment.

The package includes an attractive salary paid into a UK bank account; 40 days’ leave a year plus 12+/- public holidays, baggage allowance, visa and flights. Accommodation is provided and paid for by the BC; you pay for utilities.

Please note this is an unaccompanied post.
UK, US, Australian or New Zealand passport essential.
