Department

The BBC has the rights to the next four Olympic Games as well as being the exclusive UK broadcaster for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
And following the success of London 2012, we are bringing some enhanced focus to this area of our output, including launching a new monthly Network TV magazine programme later in 2012.
Interviews are expected to take place on Friday 22nd February.

Role

The purpose of your role is to be the creative and editorial lead with overall responsibility for the Magazine’s programme content and also to be the lead on feature making for Major Events themselves, including leading on support programming for those events.     The role requires exciting, flexible and dynamic vision for the programme using BBC Sport’s finest on and off screen talent, first class feature making and award winning journalism. You’ll be accountable for the editorial quality of the programme and ensuring that there is continuous editorial development.   In addition you’ll instigate, lead and co-ordinate all feature making for Major Events, including support programming. Ensuring that for the team, there is full engagement in, and compliance with, BBC editorial strategy and guidelines.    You’ll also provide new ideas and innovations for the new-look show, while at the same time running the production process as efficiently as possible in the current economic climate.

Requirements

You’ll have proven ability to be the leader of high end magazine content and proven ability to deliver top class features on major sporting events.    In addition you’ll have proven ability to lead a team delivering key feature output at major sporting events; as well as being responsible for managing the performance of editorial and production teams.   You’ll have experience of editing high-profile and high-impact output using the latest technology.  An understanding of how non-linear platforms can be utilised in conjunction with linear output to offer a fully multi-platform service.    As well as
demonstrable experience of applying sound editorial judgement based on an understanding of the target audience, editorial guidelines, programme requirements and the objectives of BBC North.    You’ll possess a thorough knowledge of Olympic Sports and the principal contacts and partners both internally and externally.   Furthermore, you’ll have experience of delivering quality content on schedule and within budget
