Newsround is the only integrated news service for children in the UK. With thirty six programmes a week, a comprehensive online service and a weekly sports show, we deliver news to 6-12 year olds in an engaging and innovative way in an increasingly competitive market.  We want to appoint a dynamic and creative Assistant Producer to work on all Newsround platforms.

Role

As Assistant Producer, you will have a genuine desire to create exciting content for children in our target audience of 6 - 12 year olds as well as innovative ideas on how to engage children in news and sport. We look for staff from both online and television backgrounds but all the team are expected to learn about and work across all platforms. This position involves shift and weekend work.

Requirements

You will need to have some previous experience working in a broadcast news / factual environment, ideally with an understanding of newsgathering.  A knowledge of working with news systems and technologies such as ENPS is required as well as a first class news judgement and a thorough understanding of Producers Guidelines, media law and Editorial Policy - particularly in relation to children’s issues.  You will also need a good understanding of or willingness to learn about Newsround’s target audience and of CBBC.
