BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle drives approval of the BBC in Northern Ireland. It has a reputation for excellence and innovation that makes it one of the most successful stations in the country. Radio Ulster has a large array of programmes, from live shows like Alan Simpson or Saturday Magazine to pre-recorded programmes like The Book Programme or With Bennett and co-ordinated themed weeks like Farm Week or Titanic Week. BBC Northern Ireland is in an exciting phase of development, needing to create a portfolio of programmes and content that continues to appeal in a rapidly changing media environment.

Role

As Content Assistant you’ll contribute ideas and provide editorial and research support for a range of programmes and aid the production of innovative multi-platform content.   As well as being responsible for technical operations for majority of BBC Radio live and recorded output from Northern Ireland. Content Assistants will work in a flexible manner across genres, rotas, locations and working environment, deputising for Content Producers as required.    You will also support, develop and maintain the BBC’s Values and Behaviours to create a culture where staff feel informed, valued and empowered to give their best.   You will initially be working on ATL but may be expected to move to other programmes as required.

Requirements

Across the Line is a multi-platform brand, with significant web presence. You’ll therefore you’ll need to have an understanding of understanding of the principles of sound and audio and demonstrable knowledge of the technologies involved in audio production. With appreciation of how audiences use digial media and knowledge of the platforms in use and the importance of metadata.  You’ll have excellent technical skills for delivering broadcast quality content in a range of digital environments, whether self-operation, on location, on desktops and in workshops as required. As well as experience of the techniques of audio production for multiple platforms and a willingness to learn new techniques as required.    You’ll have the ability to originate and develop creative ideas which engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environment; and possess the contacts and be able to source content from a variety output.    You’ll need experience of writing clear and concise material which may be used for briefs, scripts and digital platforms.    Familiarity with iBroadcast, iSite, Adobe, Photoshop and Cinegy would be an advantage as would knowledge of the Irish Music scene.
