Organizational Setting |
The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in: improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle and the management of nuclear wastes; catalyzing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and, advancing science and industry through the improved operation of research reactors. The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology is responsible for the management of programmes supporting all technologies of the nuclear fuel cycle with particular focus on uranium resources and production, nuclear power reactor fuel engineering, management of spent fuel from nuclear power reactors, topical issues of nuclear fuels and fuel cycles for advanced and innovative reactors, research reactors and also technologies for the treatment, storage and disposal of radioactive waste, management of disused sealed radioactive sources, and the decommissioning of installations and remediation of sites. The Division is also responsible for issues connected to the utilization, maintenance, refurbishment as well as the construction of new research reactors and the related fuel management. The Waste Technology Section assists Member States with waste management and decommissioning. It covers a broad spectrum of activities and is organized into teams responsible for radioactive waste management (pre-disposal and disposal), decommissioning of installations, environmental remediation of contaminated sites and management of disused sealed radioactive sources (DSRS). Efforts are focused mainly on the elaboration and implementation of comprehensive and integrated radioactive waste management (RWM) strategies, the development of RWM infrastructure, the promotion of good practices for sustainable, safe and cost-effective RWM and the provision of direct assistance through the technical cooperation programme and nuclear security programme. |
Main purpose |
Reporting to the Section Head, the Associate Project Officer provides project management, reporting and analytical support to the technical officer, within the different working areas, with the objective of accomplishing effective and timely execution of the project, also analyses and proposes improvements to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the CONNECT collaboration platform project by applying management methods and practices for human resource development and capacity building in IT technology utilization. |
Role |
The Associate Project Officer is: (1) a substantive specialist, implementing the CONNECT project under the leadership of Project Manager; and (2) an adviser to the Project Manager on knowledge management and implementation issues related to the CONNECT project. |
Partnerships |
The Associate Project Officer consults with and provides services to the technical officers according to approved work processes, ensures that project schedules show the appropriate and accurate detail, and ensures completion of activities according to the donor agreement. The Associate Project Officer works closely with the Project Technical Officers and the appropriate technical departments within the IAEA, Member State institutions, and relevant international organizations to ensure timely and effective implementation of the programme. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $46 730 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $27 851*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave,pension plan and health insurance.
