Communications Specialist II, Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) in Washington, DC

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Communications Specialist II, Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) in Washington, DC.
 
Position Description:

Over the past 10 years, the PPPHW partners have worked at both the global and national levels to raise awareness of handwashing with soap. With a current network of over 1,000 individuals and organizations promoting handwashing, there is no other partnership in the world monitoring and supporting such a broad a group of handwashing programs. The PPPHW is uniquely positioned to increase demand for handwashing behavior change globally and to provide analysis and capacity-building of behavior change efforts.
 
Under the direction of the PPPHW Coordinator, the Communications Officer will support the PPPHW at 50% time.  The Communications Officer will draft and edit reports, program documents, website content, fundraising proposals and other written communications deliverables. The Officer will also provide updates and communications to PPPHW partners as well as assist in the planning of PPPHW-related events. The Communications Officer will also manage and support social media and website content for WASHplus and the PPPHW. In addition, the Communications Coordinator will provide operational and administrative support to both programs as needed.
 
This position is funded at 50% time.
 
The Communications Specialist II will:
 
  • Provide ongoing day-to-day program implementation support, which includes leading communications activities like managing website content, partner communications, and other communications support.
  • Provide event planning support including logistics, procurement, material preparation, communications with participants and presenters, note-taking, reports, etc.
  • Draft fundraising proposals
  • Manage social media activities like Twitter and Facebook posts and activities.
  • Edit and review PPPHW communications.
  • Provide other administrative and program support as assigned
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
  • Bachelors in one of the following or related fields: International Affairs, International Development, Public Administration and Other Job-related Field required or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 6 year(s) of relevant experience required
  • At least three years of experience in an office setting required, with one year experience in a large non-profit organization preferred;
  • Communications experience with strong writing and presentation skills;
  • Experience with social media and innovative uses of technology for communications;
  • Experience in client relationship management;
  • Experience in administration and/or project support;
  • Interest in public health, international development, and/or behavior change communication preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong editing skills especially desired;
  • Ability to work efficiently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; must be extremely detail oriented;
  • Able to work independently and make decisions/choices with limited supervision; willingness to take initiate especially desired;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with numerous staff, teams, partner organizations and clients, including internal and external contacts;
  • Strong skills in all MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; knowledge of desktop publishing a plus;
  • Experience with website content management systems and using social media tools for dissemination desirable;
  • Graphic design and video editing skills, a plus
