CONSULTANT TO WRITE UN WOMEN SOUTH SUDAN ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2012

Background

The vision of UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, is a world where societies are free of gender-based discrimination, where women and men have equal opportunities, where the comprehensive development of women and girls is ensured so that they can continue to be active agents of change, where gender equality and women’s empowerment are achieved and where women’s rights are upheld in all efforts to further development, human rights, peace and security. 
UN Women’s South Sudan Country Office has developed a draft Annual Work Plan, 2013, aligned with the UN Women Global Strategy, the South Sudan Development Plan and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2011-2013. Targeted gender equality and women’s empowerment interventions will be undertaken to address Women’s leadership and participation; women’s economic empowerment; and women’s peace building and security. 
Every year UN WOMEN South Sudan office prepares its Annual Report, a document in English documenting what projects the country office supported during the year. UN Women has an approved the Annual Work Plan for 2012 and is in the process of finalizing the 2013 AWP
The annual report, which will have approximately 30 pages, establishes:
  • A brief overview of the situation of women and girls including achievements and lessons from previous cooperation, programme structure, including programme component results and intermediate results, the programme strategy.
  • Provisions, or operational modalities governing the management of UN Women South Sudan.
UN Women South Sudan would like to hire a short term consultant for 2 weeks (Between February –March 2013) to write the annual report document, putting together in analytical manner information provided by UN Women programme, communication, operations and fundraising 
Reports to: Deputy Representative UN Women

Duties and Responsibilities

The specific deliverables tasks are to:
  • Write the 2012 UN Women South Sudan Annual Report
Methodology:
For the Annual Report, the following process is expected:
  • Review Potential documentation to AWP, project documents, project implementation reports.
  • Develop report outline for approved by Deputy Representative.
  • Interview relevant staff members for each section of the Annual Report.
  • Provide a first draft for review by technical UN Women staff members based on the guidelines provided by the country office.
  • Modify the first draft based on feedback from UN Women staff members and provide a second draft
  • Finalize the annual report.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; capacity to recognize and respond appropriately to the ideas, interests and concerns of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. 

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications:
  • A postgraduate degree in social sciences, women’s studies or related discipline. 
Experience:
  • At least five years progressively responsible experience in the field of women’s empowerment and gender equality in post-conflict or least developed countries.
  • Significant experience in research and data collection on women’s empowerment.
  • Excellent writing skills and prior experience of compiling high level quality documents
  • Experience with implementing ethical research methodologies in conflict-affected populations, especially with women and girls. 
Language Requirement:
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is a must.
