Organizational Setting |
The Department of Safeguards is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for more than 175 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries. The Department of Safeguards consists of six Divisions: three Operations Divisions: A, B and C, for the implementation of verification activities around the world; and three Technical Divisions, (i) Division of Concepts and Planning, (ii) Division of Information Management, and (iii) Division of Technical and Scientific Services, as well as two Offices: the Office of Safeguards Analytical Services and the Office of Information and Communication Services. The Division of Information Management (SGIM) comprises four sections and provides the Department of Safeguards with services of data processing, secure information distribution, information analysis and knowledge generation necessary to draw independent, impartial and credible safeguards conclusions. |
Main purpose |
The Geospatial Analyst contributes to the data processing workflow for raster and vector data within the Section. This work is critical for operational effectiveness. She/he will contribute to the implementation and maintenance of data, services and applications to support the Department's Geospatial Exploitation System (GES). The GES currently distributes imagery and geospatial products to users across the Department. |
Role |
The Geospatial Analyst is: 1) an analyst - conducting analysis based on Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. This involves pre-processing imagery, digitizing vector features, generating site plans, and producing geospatial products for nuclear sites worldwide; 2) a technical specialist, providing advice on GIS standards, productgeneration, geodatabase management. This also involves presenting methods and analytical techniques at conferences, workshops and training courses; and 3) a team member, working closely with the Section Head and imagery analysts in the Section on spatial data and products, and with Department staff on requirements for spatial data. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $46 730 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $27 851*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave,pension plan and health insurance.
