THE AUTHORITY

The EFTA Surveillance Authority monitors compliance by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway with the law of the European Economic Area (EEA), enabling those countries to participate in the European internal market. In monitoring and enforcing the EEA Agreement, the Authority has powers that correspond to those of the European Commission. The Authority is based in Brussels and operates independently of the EFTA States. The Authority is led by a College which consists of three members appointed by the EEA EFTA States.

THE VACANT POSITION

The successful candidate will provide support relating to operational procedures in the Internal Market Affairs Directorate. This entails among other tasks checking compliance with case handling procedures, collecting data, producing statistics and reports and providing general assistance to the management and staff of the Directorate. The successful candidate may also be assigned additional tasks by the Director.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Relevant work experience and education;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;
  • Comfortable with figures and statistics;
  • Interest in and experience with European affairs;
  • Very good computer literacy, especially proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point;
  • Good organisational and communication skills;
  • Flexibility and ability to work both independently and in a team.

Desirable

  • Norwegian, Icelandic or German language skills (EFTA languages);
  • French and/or Dutch language skills (language of the host country);
  • Experience in working on security related issues.

Conditions:

The position is placed at grade B5 of the salary scale. Step 1 of the grade B5 corresponds to € 47.140,56 per year. Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the indicated grade. A higher step can be considered on the basis of the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Start date: June/July 2013

Type and duration of appointment: fixed-term three year contract. If considered desirable and in the Authority’s interest, an additional three year contract may be offered.
