Managing Director - HOPE Congo


HOPE International is a network of MFIs operating in 16 countries around the world. It works to empower men, women, and families to break the cycles of physical and spiritual poverty through the provision of loans, savings services, basic business training, mentoring, and discipleship. In its network, HOPE includes traditional microfinance programs, microfinance plus programs, savings-led microfinance programs, and small and medium enterprise development programs.
About the Job: 
HOPE International is looking for a Managing Director - HOPE Congo. S/he will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of the microfinance program and HOPE's activities in the Republic of Congo. S/he will head the institution'€™s executive team and will directly supervise the finance manager, operations manager and other departmental leads.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Governance:
    • Responsible to ensure the organization meets all local legal requirements and to lead Board meetings and Executive Committee meetings when required;
    • Represent the MFI and maintain good working relationships with governmental authorities, donors, other local practitioners, and the general public.
  • Risk:
    • Responsible for the management of risk and risk assessment in the organization;
    • Vigilantly ensure that all staff understand and follow policies and procedures and that all employees are doing their utmost to protect the assets of the organization;
    • Ensure systems are in place to review, expose, report and eliminate areas of risk within the organization.
  • Planning:
    • Lead the process of establishing strategic plans to optimize the growth of the MFI;
    • Ensure that financial and analytical models are completed and maintained.
  • Funding:
    • Secure the capital funding to meet or exceed the business objectives, developing and maintaining strong working relationships with HOPE International, HOPE Global Investment Fund, and other external funding organizations and banks as needed;
    • Pursue funding through funding proposals and continuing donor relations in order to ensure a continued development of the MFI.
  • Resourcing:
    • Responsible to ensure that the organization is correctly staffed according to the business plan and in line with the established HR policies;
    • Ensure that suitable facilities and equipment are available to the staff.
  • People management and resourcing:
    • Responsible to ensure that the organization is correctly staffed and resourced with facilities and equipment according to the Business Plan and in line with the established HR policies;
    • Provide oversight and direction to employees in accordance with HOPE’s policies.
  • Achieving results:
    • Responsible to achieve or exceed the Business Plan within the assigned budget;
    • Work with the Management Team to solve problems, address training and capacity issues, and find improvements and efficiencies for the benefit of the organization and its clients.
  • Reporting:
    • Ensure that HOPE International reporting deadlines are met;
    • Ensure that reporting to the local government is completed as required.
Qualifications: 
  • MBA, CPA, or advanced degree in relevant field;
  • Minimum 5-10 years experience in microfinance, banking or financial services sector, preferably in Africa or other developing nation;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Extreme flexibility and ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations;
  • Demonstrated desire to help people that have been brought low by war, poverty, or other circumstances regain hope, dignity, and the ability to support themselves and their families;
  • Experience with Microsoft suite, LPF, and other software packages, as required;
  • Proficiency in English and French.
