Without safe water to drink or sanitation, people are trapped in a cycle of poverty and disease. Across the developing world, millions of women are wasting precious time collecting dirty water, children are dying from preventable diarrhoeal diseases, and communities have open sewers running through them. WaterAid works with local partners who understand local issues. It provides them with the skills and support they need to help poor communities put in place and manage practical and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene services.

Since 1981 WaterAid has helped over 17 million people access clean water and more than 12 million access sanitation. Income has increased year on year, reaching nearly £56 million last year. To extend its impact even further WaterAid is increasingly using its experience, research and campaigning to influence governments and other service providers to do more.
