This is a key role, where you will develop Ofgem’s understanding of how energy markets operate and the analytical methods we use to inform regulatory decision making. This will involve monitoring and analysing key economic, technological and other developments that could affect energy markets, in order to understand the implications for Ofgem and to inform and influence policy. In addition, you will develop a team with strong modelling and analytical capability and operate as an effective member of the Retail Markets & Research directorate management team.

Key Requirements: • At least degree-level education in economics or related discipline, or equivalent. • Wide-ranging expertise in applying economics in a commercial or public sector environment and significant experience in leading analytical work, including use of modelling, to support strategy and policy development. • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and to represent Ofgem and influence key external stakeholders, including industry, government and academics. • The ability to understand complex and often technical issues and analysis, and to communicate this effectively to both expert and non-expert audiences. • The ability to identify research and analytical priorities against the context of Ofgem’s objectives and the wider social, economic, technological, environmental and political background. • Strong people and project management skills, including the ability to lead and develop effective teams and to manage a significant programme of work. • A good understanding of wholesale energy and, ideally, financial markets.
