POLICY OFFICER - Chartered Institute of Arbitrators | United Kingdom


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Monitor government plans (including EU, national, regional & local) to identify appropriate consultations from EU, UK Government and other Industry bodies and co-ordinate and produce responses in consultation with key members/ committees as appropriate.
  •  Liaise with EU and UK parliaments, government officials and organisations, national and local politicians and other relevant stakeholders to influence decision making relating to non-Court dispute resolution.
  •  Engage with politicians, their advisers and other decision makers over policy development – attending meetings, preparing briefings and consultation processes as appropriate.
  •  Maintain an awareness of developments in ADR and related sectors both nationally and internationally to identify, develop, promote, disseminate best practice in ADR.
  •  Monitor and research information sources (e.g. web sites, radio/ TV. Press and technical publications) to identify and report on issues relevant to CIArb and its Members, help to form CIArb’s view on such issues and develop opportunities to influence public policy, opinions and perceptions.
  •  In conjunction with the Director of Education & Academic Affairs and the Director of Legal Services, prepare, implement and update CIArb’s public policy strategy and business plan.
  •  Undertake other tasks and activities as required from time to time.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
  •  Degree level or higher standard of education.
  •  Previous experience of working proactively within a committee based governance structure (gained within central government, a local authority, professional body, Charity or similar.
  •  Experience and evidence of successfully working with decision makers, parliamentary and civil service contacts.
  •  Excellent knowledge of current affairs and keenness to engage in the public arena
  •  Knowledge of private dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation and/or construction adjudication.
  •  Experience of managing resources, budgets and business plans and meeting financial targets effectively.
  •  Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.
Desirable
  •  Qualifications appropriate to one or more ADR process.
  •  An understanding of the needs of a membership-based organisation.
