DSW seeks to recruit a
Junior Advocacy Officer
to be based in Brussels
The Junior Advocacy Officer supports the Advocacy Department in successfully implementing its goals by contributing to advance EU Global Health research and development (R&D) policies and funding.
Areas of responsibility for the position include:
Advocacy & Campaigning
  •  Provide support for and/or implement programmes and project based advocacy activities.
  •  Support the implementation of the advocacy strategy relating to Global Health R&D.
  •  Contribute to advocacy briefing papers, statements and other advocacy documents.
  •  Proof-read and copy-edit and format documents (English).
  •  Manage contact databases and mailing lists.
Research
  •  Research current developments and scientific advances in Global Health R&D.
  •  Provide support in monitoring, researching and reporting on EU policy and funding for research affecting health in developing countries.
  •  Carry out literature searches as assigned.
Event management and meeting organisation
  •  Organise DSW meetings and external events (European Parliament, press events etc.)
  •  Take minutes and draft meeting reports.
  •  Other tasks including administrative tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
  •  University degree in public health, social and natural sciences, international/European affairs or equivalent field.
  •  Good knowledge and understanding of global health issues and policy; knowledge of EU research policies/funding an advantage.
  •  Good knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions, including decision making procedures.
  •  At least one year of working experience.
  •  Experience in event organisation desirable.
  •  Very good written and oral communications skills.
  •  Ability to use normal office software, including work processing, data management and presentations. Experience with graphic design programmes (e.g. Adobe InDesign) is advantageous.
  •  Excellent English language skills, both written and oral, required. (Good knowledge of French, German and/or other European languages is an advantage.)
  •  Work and residence permit for Belgium.
  •  Ability to work effectively in teams, build positive working relationships and foster open communications.
  •  Ability to work in international and multicultural settings, including international travel.
