The Authority

The EFTA Surveillance Authority monitors compliance by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway with the law of the European Economic Area (EEA), enabling those countries to participate in the European internal market. In monitoring and enforcing the EEA Agreement, the Authority has powers that correspond to those of the European Commission. The Authority is based in Brussels and operates independently of the EFTA States. The Authority is led by a College which consists of three members appointed by the EEA EFTA States.

Role Description

The successful candidate will advise the Authority on press, information and communication matters, liaise with journalists, administer and make presentations to visitor groups, co-ordinate the making of the annual report and scoreboards of the Authority, prepare presentations and speeches for senior management, and produce information material, e.g. press releases or text for the Authority’s website. The incumbent may also be given responsibilities for additional tasks in accordance with his or her background.

Qualifications

  • A University degree in communication or journalism or other relevant education or experience;
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience within the information sector;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;
  • Knowledge of the functioning of the EU and the EEA Agreement and their institutions;
  • Familiarity with the media environment of the EFTA States;
  • Computer literacy and ability to work with social media and web site software;
  • Flexible and able to work both independently and in a team in an international multicultural environment;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Good working knowledge of Norwegian and/or Icelandic and/or German (EFTA languages).

Conditions
