- Our exciting employer-led partnership is turning 14-19 education on its head, to create a business-like and business-led University Technology College located adjacent to the University of Warwick.
Led by a unique group of local, regional and national employer organisations, innovative advanced manufacturing, engineering and ICT/digital technology businesses such as Jaguar Land Rover, National Grid and SCC, and world-class research and education leaders in WMG (formerly known as Warwick Manufacturing Group) and the University of Warwick, we are committed to providing a better way of learning for the engineers of the future. We want to enable young people to progress and develop the skills and competencies that employers value - the ability to solve problems, work in teams and communicate effectively.
Our vision is driven by employers. It is based on the challenges which entrepreneurs, companies and industry face every day - being innovative, creating things, solving problems, designing products and services, serving the global market. So we are clear that our students will need to study and work in different ways - in teams of 2, or 22, or 222, solving real problems set by our sponsor companies, over an extended working day, just like our employers do.
As our Principal and Managing Director, with the support of the Project team, you will have the opportunity to spend one year prior to opening taking this vision and making it reality by:
- recruiting our 640 students and your own team
- overseeing the design and construction of a new building
- working with our employers to develop the curriculum
- making sure we open for business in September 2014
Not only will you have to stand on your head, you will have to juggle at the same time.
There are lots of competing priorities. Our Board and our sponsors are most interested in whether you passionately believe in and can deliver our vision. You will need to be a natural leader and stakeholder manager, an exemplary communicator, project director, diplomat, partnership worker, and the face of the WMG Academy for Young Engineers.
You might currently be working in a senior position in a school or academy, but we are very open minded about where you come from. What matters now is where you are going to take us to.
