Department

The Communications department are responsible for managing, promoting and protecting the BBC’s corporate reputation both externally and internally.

Role

You will provide the relevant output/programmes and editorial teams with advice on all aspects of press and publicity, whilst creating and implementing publicity strategies for Radio 4’s wide range of output, delivering effective 360 degree communications campaigns.
 
You will bring a strong news sense and ability to proactively spot and generate publicity from news lines in interviews, documentaries and other content, whilst taking responsibility for the liaison with, and communications management of, named senior BBC executives.
 
Reputation management is key and you will spot and deal with issues related to output, defending Radio 4’s reputation. You will act as spokesperson for Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra, at times working closely with the press office on pan-BBC matters.

Maintaining effective working relationships and contacts with the media, national and regional newspapers and magazines, websites, TV and radio outlets is key, with the co-ordination of press conferences, briefings, previews and press management at BBC events also being a core part of the role, as is handling requests for interviews and giving authority for viewings to be arranged. 

Requirements

You will bring a proven record of achievement in publicity, public relations or journalism, supported by a good understanding of the media environment and the news gathering process both in radio, television and print.

Excellent news sense with the ability to write crisp, clear and lively press releases and copy is key, as is lateral, creative thinking, and the hunger to constantly try new ideas and approaches.

Crisis management experience is a must.
 
You will have good IT skills, with the ability to adapt to new IT systems.
